Oakland Spring Clean?

w_oakland_junk.jpg

Sometimes the spring cleaning bug hits certain households in Oakland. This can result in some spontaneous, large piles of refuse on the sidewalk. Why bother taking care of your old throw-aways when you can just dump it outside and let someone else deal with it?

This 'yard-sale' was seen in a neighborhood in West Oakland. Hope your neighbors don't do this...

Waste management offers large refuse pickups. Each household can schedule a major pickup once a year for free. You must have your stuff on the curb inside an 8 hour window. If you pile it out before or after the scheduled window, you will get a stiff fine. The only people who don't know about this service are those who own no property in Alameda county.

Not everyone owns a pickup truck with fuzzy dice and can't haul their stuff to the dump or more likely to the end of a cul-de-sac. Most major cities offer this service to home owners. They are the ones who pay the property tax that support the free for you school your kids go to.

Hey, look on the bright side. Since you like to jump to conclusions and don't bother to research your conclusions, you probably have a promising future in modern journalism.
